Oil Separator
An oil separator is a component used in large-scale Commercial HVAC and complex Multi-Zone Systems to keep the compressor's oil where it belongs. As refrigerant travels through long Line Sets, it often carries some of the lubricant with it; the separator catches this oil and returns it directly to the Compressor. This ensures that the compressor always has a full reservoir of oil for lubrication, preventing a catastrophic "seized" motor. You can find replacement separators and oil-management components in our Parts department. While rarely needed in small residential systems, they are essential for systems with significant vertical piping runs or high tonnage. Proper oil management is the key to a 20+ year lifespan for heavy-duty ACIq equipment. It is a critical piece of "hidden" technology that keeps complex refrigeration circuits running smoothly. Without it, the oil could become trapped in the indoor coils, reducing their cooling efficiency.
