Desiccant Wheel

A desiccant wheel is a rotating component found in advanced air purification and dehumidification systems that uses a specialized drying agent to pull moisture from the air. As the wheel turns, one side absorbs humidity from the incoming air stream, while the other side is heated to release that moisture back to the outside. This technology is commonly used in Commercial HVAC and high-end residential systems to manage extreme humidity without over-cooling the space. It is a key part of maintaining superior Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in schools, hospitals, and office buildings. Because it doesn't rely on a traditional refrigeration cycle for dehumidification, it can be much more energy-efficient in certain climates. You will often see these integrated with HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) units to provide fresh, dry air year-round. While not found in standard budget systems, they are a premium solution for those sensitive to humidity or mold. They represent the high-tech frontier of moisture control for large-scale properties.
