Bleed-Off Valve

A bleed-off valve is a device used in evaporative cooling systems or boilers to periodically remove a small amount of water to prevent the buildup of mineral scale. As water evaporates, the minerals left behind become concentrated, which can lead to "hard water" deposits on the cooling pads or heat exchanger. By constantly or periodically "bleeding" some of the concentrated water, the system can maintain a lower mineral count and operate more efficiently. In the context of Water-Plumbing for HVAC systems, this valve is a critical maintenance component that prevents long-term hardware degradation. Without proper bleed-off, the efficiency of the heat transfer will plummet, and components may eventually crack or clog. These valves are relatively simple to install and are an inexpensive way to protect your larger investment in Commercial HVAC equipment. Regular inspection of the valve's flow rate ensures your system isn't wasting water while still providing adequate protection.
