Barometric Damper
A barometric damper is a device installed in the flue pipe of a furnace or boiler to maintain a constant draft by automatically adjusting to pressure changes. It features a weighted flap that opens or closes based on the atmospheric pressure, ensuring that the burner operates efficiently regardless of wind or weather. This component is common in older Mobile Home Furnaces and some specialized light commercial boilers. By stabilizing the draft, the damper prevents the pilot light from blowing out and ensures that heat isn't wasted by being pulled up the chimney too quickly. You can find these and other venting accessories in our Accessories-Kits section. Proper adjustment of the damper weight is necessary to balance the efficiency of the ACIq gas-fired units. It serves as a simple yet effective mechanical regulator for the combustion process within a Ducted Shop All setup.
