Automatic Changeover

Automatic changeover is a thermostat feature that allows an HVAC system to switch between heating and cooling modes automatically based on the indoor temperature. This is incredibly useful in transitional seasons like spring or fall, where you might need heating at night and cooling during the day. This feature is standard on most modern Multi-Zone Systems to ensure every room stays within its designated comfort range. When using ACIq or Cooper-Hunter systems, the changeover prevents the house from becoming uncomfortably warm before the cooling kicks in. It requires a deadband setting to ensure the system doesn't "short cycle" by switching back and forth too rapidly. This convenience feature is especially popular for Light Commercial Mini Splits in office buildings where occupants may vary. By managing the climate without manual intervention, it provides a "set it and forget it" user experience.
